What does it mean to be given a challenge coin?

A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion, bearing an organization’s insignia or emblem and carried by the organization’s members. Traditionally, they are given to enhance morale and they are collected by service members.

Challenge Coins have been an American military tradition for a century, meant to instill unit pride, improve esprit de corps and reward hard work and excellence.
